The Dark Side of FootwearThe truth is that footwear is a toxic and harmful industry, but often hides under the radar. Most sneakers are mass produced using harmful materials like synthetic textiles, synthetic rubber and other plastics. These are also the source of micro-plastics that pollute our earth, sea, air, water, and ultimately ending up on our plates. Leather, which is generally considered a "natural material", is actually packed with toxic chemicals. Leather tanning is also a highly toxic process which pollutes waterways, environments and even those who make the shoes. In a disposable-trend society, we throw-out our sneakers putting an unbearable burden on the Earth's ecosystems.
